About me

I am a Licensed Professional Counselor in Oregon and have practiced cognitive behavioral therapy since 2014. I see adults and couples online, and in person at my Portland office on Tuesdays.

In our first session we define what you want to change and agree on how we will notice progress. I explain what we are doing and why at every stage, and between sessions I give short exercises — 10 to 15 minutes a day.

Reviews

Shared with permission by former clients; names changed.

  • I came in because of panic attacks on the MAX. Four months later they are mostly gone, and when one does happen I know what to do. I also appreciated that Olena always explained why we were doing each exercise.

    Irene, 3116 sessions

  • My husband and I started couples sessions when we were arguing every day. Olena never took sides. We learned to talk through hard topics without raising our voices.

    Maria and Andrew10 sessions

  • After moving here from Chicago I could not get back into a routine and was tired all the time. Our sessions broke the situation down into concrete steps. Meeting online made it easy to fit around work.

Common questions

Did not find your answer? Ask in the booking form and I will reply personally.

How is a counselor different from a psychiatrist?

A psychiatrist is a physician who diagnoses and prescribes medication. A counselor does not prescribe and works through conversation and exercises. If I see that a psychiatric evaluation would help, I will say so directly and refer you.

How many sessions will I need?

It depends on what you come in with. Work on a specific problem such as panic attacks or insomnia usually takes 10 to 20 sessions. Broader goals take six months or more. We discuss an estimate in the first session.

I do not know how to describe what is wrong

That is normal before a first session. It is enough to describe what is bothering you right now. Putting it into words is part of what the first session is for.

Is what I say kept confidential?

Yes. I do not record sessions and I do not share information with third parties. The exceptions are set by law: an immediate risk to someone’s safety.

What do I need for an online session?

A stable connection, headphones and a private space where you will not be overheard. Camera on is up to you.
